The latest nShield Connect XC models include an optional serial port, enabling enterprises to avoid expensive repeat visits to the data center. Remote configuration features include:

• Initiating and modifying an HSM’s network settings, such as the IP address.
• Supporting provider/tenant deployment models where the nShield HSM appliance can be configured by the provider before transferring control to the tenant, ensuring cryptographic key material remains secure and unseen by the provider.
• Purging key material and decommissioning the nShield HSM appliance at the end of its usage cycle, preparing it for its next deployment.

Technicians only need to rack, cable the nShield HSM appliance, and connect a serial concentrator in the data center to enable complete remote configuration and administration. This reduces the need for specialized personnel in the data center and provides customers with greater efficiency and control over their HSMs.
